Please be aware of three TT faculty openings at MTSU’s College of Mass Communication. Two are AD/PR positions in the School of Journalism and the other is Chair of the Department of Electronic Media Communication:

The School of Journalism at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for two tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions in Advertising and/or Public Relations, to begin August 1, 2011.  Emphasis in Digital Technology/Emerging Media is of particular interest.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate Advertising and/or Public Relations, specifically, Advertising Layout and Design, Advertising Copywriting, Media Planning, Advertising Management, PR Principles, PR Communication, PR Publications, PR Case Studies, PR Campaigns. Teach conceptual as well as skills-based courses using multiple platforms and emerging media. Teaching in Master’s in Mass Communication program also possible. Current program of research and/or creative activity required. Interest in health-care or visual communication desirable.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate, or ABD, in Communication (or related field).  ABDs must have doctorate when job commences.  Applicants with Master’s in Business Administration or Integrated Marketing Communications and distinguished professional record in communication considered.  College-level teaching experience preferred; related professional experience a plus. Demonstration of teaching effectiveness, recent research/creative activity, and commitment to understanding diverse populations expected.

The department of Electronic Media Communication is seeking a dynamic, collegial, and collaborative administrator who shares the department's evolving vision to help us reach a new level of

excellence.

 

A chair for the department of Electronic Media Communication will be expected to:

 

* Initiate, plan, and oversee the implementation and review of the department's academic programs;

* Be responsible for the appropriate scheduling of classes and assignment of faculty based on strengths and programmatic needs;

* Delegate responsibilities effectively;

* Facilitate cooperation and effective relations with other academic units and the university in general;

* Facilitate and maintain beneficial relationships in all marketing, outreach, and development efforts with students, prospective students, alumni, and industry professionals;

* Coordinate, evaluate, and support the teaching, scholarly, and professional activities of all faculty;

* Provide recommendations for appointments, promotions,

reassignment time, tenure and research/scholarly/

creative reassignment of faculty;

* Take the lead role in departmental faculty recruitment and retention;

* Manage the facilities and professional staff;

* Be responsible for the department budget, allocation of resources,

and securing internal and external funding;

* Facilitate the implementation of the university's academic master plan.

 

The new chair will also teach in one of the department's concentrations and run the day-to-day affairs of the department.

 

The successful candidate should have a strong record of

administration, research, teaching, and public service, and/or have significant nationally recognized professional industry experience.

The candidate should also possess strong leadership, management, and communication skills. Applicants should have a terminal degree in an appropriate area represented by one of the programs in the

department or a distinguished record of professional achievement, and must be eligible to hold the rank of full professor in the MTSU department of Electronic Media Communication at the time the appointment begins.
