2011 Writing Institute:
Providing Teaching
Strategies for English Language Learners
National
Writing Project Oklahoma a state network between Oklahoma Writing Project
(University of Oklahoma) and Oklahoma State University Writing Project will be
hosting a Writing Institute during Summer 2011. The goal of this institute is to provide outstanding
professional development to rural areas in the southwest and southeast areas of
our state. Participants will be
exposed to the writing process and a variety of literacy activities. This professional development
opportunity will also provide teachers with knowledge and skills to service
English Language Learners in the classroom.
Sessions
will be held on June 4, 2011, July 6, 7
& 8, 2011 from 8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the campuses of East Central
University (Ada) and Cameron University (Lawton).

Teaching ELL Learning
Closing Achievement Gaps
Preparing for State Writing
APPLICANTS: Applications are due March 31, 2011
Ten outstanding teachers will be selected to attend the 2011
Writing Institute to be held at the East Central University and ten outstanding
teachers will be selected to attend the 2011 Writing Institute to be held
Cameron University. Teachers of
all subject areas and of all levels of instruction—pre-K though
college--interested in teaching composition or incorporating writing into their
regular subject matter instruction are encouraged to apply. The important consideration is a strong
commitment to teaching of composition and helping students' understanding
through writing including English Language Learners.
