I agree completely with Neil Gaiman (who is the person in the interview, for those who haven't looked at it yet). Sharing an author's work is not a violation of copyright unless you make money from it. Copyright protects ownership--your work is your work. It does not and should not prevent people from sharing your work--only from taking credit for it or profiting from it.
Gaiman's other point is that sharing his work on the web is a very effective form of advertising, and he is also right about that.
