Thanks
to everyone for their in-put.
I
have not gotten to all my email sent since Friday so there may be more
information than what is summarized below. Please post to the whole list
your opinions about what I am to suggest and response to the question I ask.
If
anyone wants to send personal condolences or contributions to the
scholarship in Von’s name at Kent or ask her daughter a question
the information is:
1.
Donations
can now be made to the Dr. Evonne H. Whitmore Memorial Scholarship through the
School of Journalism and Mass Comm at Kent State. Make checks payable to
the Kent State Univ. Foundation, KSU/JMC, P.O.B. 5190, Kent, OH 44242, Ref: Dr.
Evonne H. Whitmore Memorial Scholarship.
2.
The
funeral was today so probably the best place to send condolences to the family
is 6150 Second Ave, Kent, OH 44240
3.
Questions
for Von’s Daughter Lauren Whitmore 404-493-0756 or email [log in to unmask].
What
I plan to do
is to send a condolence card to the family and a copy of the emails people have
sent to me individually with their graphs about what Von meant to them, her
research, etc. I will keep a paper copy and provide that to anyone who is
developing a program honoring Von at next year’s conference. When I left
on Friday I had something from Dr. Sandra Combs, Sharon Bramlett-Solomon, as
well as one line each from Diana, Petra and Wanda B. If others want their
graphs sent to the family please send to me (vs. the listserve) with Honoring
Von in the subject line.
MAC
already has the Barrows scholarship that is not too hefty/needs
donations. I don’t know what the Division’s budget is but I
gather it’s always been very limited. Rather than drain funds from
the Barrows scholarship (which we should do more fundraising for BTW) I think
we should plan some sort of program tribute to Von for the next annual
conference and give individually to Von’s Kent State scholarship if so
moved.
I
cannot go to the Winter meeting so I cannot discuss it there. Petra is in
transition. Perhaps if through the listserv we could give her and Felicia
some program suggestions Petra, Felicia and Curtis (who will all, I think, be
at the Winter AEJ meeting) can decide and chip bargain then. What do you
think?
