Petra,
As MAC's first midwinter research chair, I would be very disappointed if our Division discontinued participation in this important out-of-conference opportunity for research presentations.  As the saying goes, NONE of US HAS TIME.    But, we must make time in an emergency such as this.  I'll pitch-hit since we're apparently in a bind.

The Midwinter Call for Papers needs to go out ASAP.  So, if we don't have any other volunteers, I'll do it.   But, we need to have reviewers. . That is the hardest part of handling any research competition is recruiting reliable reviewers who will operate in a timely fashion.

Can we get 10 people in the MAC Division to review the abstracts?  If you're willing to review, please e-mail Petra or me OFF-LIST ( So we can preserve blind review process)   There are NO FULL PAPERS to review for this conference.  They usually come in the 2nd week of December and we would need your decisions back by early January.    (You can usually do the reviews in one sitting)

Dear MAC Members,

I find myself in a bind. Due to certain circumstances a decision must be
made regarding the mid winter conference. There are two options; The
first option is that some one immediately take over the chair's
responsibilities. We have no time to lose. The other option is that MAC
not be part of  it. I will leave it up to the membership to decide.
Please, if there is someone who feels they can and are willing to take
this responsibility, let me know ASAP, tonight or tomorrow.  If do not
find anyone to take the position, MAC will not be part of this. I am
hoping for the best. I am sorry, but I have tried everything I can to
keep this going and I see no other alternative.
