Opening for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Broadcast News
The University of Memphis Department of Journalism seeks an Assistant Professor for a tenure-track position in broadcast news. Requirements include a doctorate in mass communication or a related field (ABD considered with Ph.D. completion within a year of starting date), full-time professional experience (at least 5 years desired) in television news, and college or university teaching experience. Multimedia/social media skills are a plus.
The successful candidate will advise students and teach broadcast news courses and core journalism classes in ACEJMC-accredited baccalaureate and master’s programs serving some 400 undergraduates and 60 graduate students, the latter enrolled in on-campus and synchronous on-line programs. Superior teaching and communication skills are required for a program emphasizing balance in teaching, research and service.
Screening will begin April 2, and may continue until the position is filled. The successful applicant will join the faculty, preferably beginning in August 2012, although a later start date might be acceptable.
