Subject: LSU High School Journalism Institute Seeking Young Minority Journalists

Dear Minority Journalism Organization:

We are excited to spread the word about this summer’s Louisiana Scholastic Journalism Institute (LSJI) at the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication! Increasing diversity in journalism and mass communication is one of LSJI’s key objectives, and we encourage your organization’s student-members to apply.

LSJI provides an intensive one-week journalism-training program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Sponsored by the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication, LSJI’s mission is to provide students with the skills needed to produce top-notch scholastic media, including newspapers, broadcast, yearbooks and multi-media. Students work closely with faculty and media professionals utilizing Manship’s state-of-the-art laboratories and production facilities. They build strong journalism skills and receive a preview of the college experience while spending five nights under supervision in one of LSU’s residential halls.

We are dedicated to creating an educational environment in which diversity is valued and encouraged. We welcome your organization’s student-members to participate in this exciting opportunity. They will build crucial skills in writing, editing, design, videography, photography and multi-media production. LSJI participants will explore social media and the exciting, new frontier of digital journalism.
