Integrating Genetics in Primary Care - Why Does it Matter?

Tuesday, March 20
12:00-12:30pm Central

An educational webinar offered as a part of the series "Time Out for Genetics" hosted by the Genetics in Primary Care Institute

Presenters:
Timothy A. Geleske, MD, FAAP
Bruce R. Korf, MD, PhD

Learning Objectives:
1) Recognize how advances in genetics and genomics can contribute to pediatric primary care.
2) Describe the importance of care coordination of care for children with genetic conditions within the medical home.

The webinars included in the Time Out for Genetics series will be presented by recognized experts with the overarching goal of educating participants about the value of incorporating genetic medicine into primary care. The 10-webinar series begins in March 2012 and continues through December 2012. Each month’s webinar will explore a particular theme in genetics as it relates to primary care and provide participants with practical take-home messages. Faculty will provide an overview of the particular topic, explain the relevance to primary care, and discuss a few case examples of how the topic can be integrated into everyday practice settings. All webinars in the series will be 30 minutes in length and take place on the last Thursday of the month at 12pm Central (with a few exceptions). The webinars will target a wide audience including pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and other stakeholders. Through the educational webinar series, it is our hope that primary care providers will have an understanding of their and other health care providers’ (eg, genetic counselors, geneticists) roles related to the provision of genetic medicine in the primary care setting.

The GPCI is a cooperative agreement between the Maternal and Child Health Bureau/Health and Human Services Administration and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
