>> From Life to Theatre: presentation by Laurel Ollstein, The Faith Broome Playwright-in-Residence at the OU School of Drama
>> Join us to discuss the writing process and how real life stories can be transformed into scenes in plays. Ollstein will discuss the research and writing process of her plays They Promised Her the Moon, Dorothy Parker is in the Bath, and Showing Our Age.
>>
>> Laurel Ollstein’s play, They Promised Her the Moon is based on the true story of Geraldyn "Jerrie" Cobb, the first woman to be tested for space flight. Along with twelve other women, Cobb went through the rigors of physical and mental testing only to be told that women would not be considered for NASA’s astronaut training program. Cobb was born in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1931, the daughter of a pilot who always dreamed of flying. Fittingly, Ms. Ollstein’s play will premiere in Norman at the University of Oklahoma in April 2012 under the direction of Dr. Judith M. Pender, Associate Professor of Drama.
