Call for Abstracts - Friday, December 7 , 2012 – Abstract Submission Deadline The presentation of cutting-edge research is an essential feature of the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting, and genetics professionals (ACMG members and non-members) are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation on topics including: Prenatal Genetics, Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Genetic Counseling, Cytogenetics, Education/Public Health/Legal & Ethical Issues, and Molecular Genetics. Submitted abstracts may be selected for poster displays or platform presentations. Abstracts will be published online and distributed in electronic format to the ACMG Annual Meeting attendees. To submit an abstract by the submission deadline of December 7, 2012 – click here. The ACMG Foundation/Signature Genomics, a PerkinElmer Company Travel Award will once again be awarded to the first author of a selected platform presentation to attend the 2013 annual meeting. Some restrictions apply. Interested individuals can apply for the award during the abstract submission process. Early Bird Registration Deadline – December 19, 2012- Register by December 19, 2012 to take advantage of Early Bird Registration fees and save up to $200. After December 19, advance discounted registration fees will be available through February 13, 2013. After February 13 through on-site, late registration fees will apply. Highlights Plenary: Progress in Gene and Cell Therapy Clinical Trials for Genetic Diseases The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT) and the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) have collaborated to strengthen the communication and education between medical professionals engaged in care and treatment of patients with genetic disorders and researchers involved in the development of novel genetic and cellular therapies to treat genetic disorders. In the quest for an increased number of genetic disorders tested during newborn screening, it is becoming increasingly important to provided evidence of a genetic or cellular therapeutic as a future treatment option. This session will focus on two advanced clinical trials for genetic diseases: cell therapy strategies for Adrenoleukodystrophy and AAV strategies for Hemophilia B. These are two clinical applications of genetic and cellular therapeutics for genetic disorders that may be considered for newborn screening in the future. Two half day Short Courses will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Industry Supported Satellite Symposia are 90-minute independently developed educational events held in conjunction with the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting as dinner and/or breakfast sessions that are supported by ACMG's industry partners (commercial or non-for-profit entities) to broaden the educational experience for meeting attendees. These sessions are presented by experts presenting new research and industry advances. These programs provide additional valuable scientific and educational opportunities to attendees. A number of Industry Supported Symposia will be presented in Phoenix. Advance registration is required for these sessions and the opportunity to register will be available in the online registration system.
