Subject: FW: HRSA DSCSHN Monthly Webinar 03-26-13: NICHQ fro the Sickle Cell Treatment Demonstration and NBS Programs.

The DSCSHN Monthly Webinar for March will be led by The National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) which serves as the National Coordinating Center for the Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Program and the National Coordinating and Evaluation Center for the Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program. These two centers are unified under the Working to Improve Sickle Cell Healthcare (WISCH) project. Please join us at 3:00pm (EST) on March 26, 2013.

Sickle cell disease is the most common genetic disorder detected in routine newborn screening programs. Affecting around 100,000 Americans, SCD largely impacts individuals of African ancestry, but is increasingly found in Latino and other populations. Most people with SCD face obstacles in accessing the high-quality care to help them live effectively with the disease. WISCH uses collaboration, innovation and quality improvement techniques to help improve the quality of life for people living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and trait across the lifespan.

This month’s webinar will focus on how the WISCH project is helping HRSA grantee teams to transform systems of care across the country. For more information about the project, visit: http://www.nichq.org/our_projects/wisch.html.

The Division of Services for Children with Special Health Needs (DSCSHN) of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is starting a monthly webinar series of the Division’s National Centers. This series was started by the Division to promote the work of the National Centers to MCHB’s grantees. These Centers provide resources for comprehensive, community-based, family-centered, culturally competent, coordinated systems of care for children and youth with special health needs and their families. On the 4th Tuesday at 3:00pm (EST) of every month, one of the National Centers will discuss their current activities, available materials, and opportunities for technical assistance for MCHB grantees and state programs. The National Centers will start off the webinar with a presentation followed by a question and answer period. DSCSHN’s hope is that the grantees can learn about the resources the National Centers have to offer.
