As a former officer in a student organization myself, I echo
Heather's point:
Though I had no idea at the time, and though I hadn't done
it for career reasons (just for fun), being president of the
Dancing Illini (SBDC's counterpart) at U Illinois in the early
1990s turned out to be the single most important career
move I've ever made.
Why? Because unlike just about everything else that I did in
college (undergrad or grad), that was the only and best
chance I got to learn the "soft skills" that are crucical to a
successful career.

This will be a long email, but I promise it's all important! :)
We'll be in the Heritage Room tomorrow! It's on the second floor of the OMU, in the hallway off of Beaird Lounge by the Union Garage. It is across from last lesson's room in the same foyer, and we'll have a sign out front like last time as well. We're continuing the Hustle, Cha Cha, and Tango!
Also, don't forget that officer elections will be this week! Please be considering whether or not you'd like to get involved in the SBDC leadership for the 2013 - 2014 academic year! It's a great chance to help shape the organization, gain experience in a leadership role, get to know other organization leaders, and have a great time all while making yourself more marketable for after you leave OU. I know it's personally been one of the best decisions I've made in my college career!
Anyway, we will accept both self-nominations and nominations this year. We don't want to miss out on finding great leaders for next year, so if you have any specific questions, please email the officers and we'll gladly talk to you about our experiences, the positions, time commitments, and roles within the SBDC. We will be filling the following offices:
- President- Vice President- Secretary- Treasurer- Historian
