Thank you for your information! When do we start this activity? Thanks again. YC From: OU Amateur Radio Club [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Moore-Furneaux, Sandra K. It definitely appears that anyone who is interested is welcome, as he says at the end of the email, "If you have students/friends who are not on the [log in to unmask] list, feel free to extend this invitation to them as well." I'll bet it's important to email Dr. Fulton about participating fairly early, though, as they probably do not have unlimited space. Zac -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Altium/PCB/soldering training for students Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2013 22:13:56 +0000 From: Fulton, Caleb J. <mailto:[log in to unmask]> <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> <[log in to unmask]> Greetings, We have been preparing for a training event that will allow students to become more familiar with the process of designing, fabricating, and populating (soldering) very circuit boards using the equipment and software that we use most often here at the ARRC. We'll be doing this in the form of a group exercise in moving all the way from a schematic to working prototype of a "noise maker" (pictured below) that runs off of a 9V battery. It's a single-sided (non-plated) PCB that will be designed from "scratch" in Altium, milled on the milling machine, and then soldered using the lab equipment. There will be three separate training sessions available to the students-Altium (software only), milling, and soldering-and students are encouraged to participate in as many as they can. Each event will likely take about 5 hours to complete. The overall goal of this endeavor is to bring students up to speed with these important prototyping skills/tools so that these training processes do not have to repeat individually for each student! The prototype above is working, and we'd like to complete this activity by the end of the summer for the first round of "trainees." If you could send me a list of students who you would like to participate (if you're faculty) or indicate individually that you are interested (if you are a student or a bored faculty member), I will begin setting up a schedule for these events. If you have students/friends who are not on the [log in to unmask] list, feel free to extend this invitation to them as well.
