We absolutely loved seeing so many new faces at our first meeting, and we can't wait to get to know you guys better this year :) Get ready for a great semester! PWSA NOTES 8/29/13 -Lots of new members showed up! Yay! Welcome to PWSA guys! Make sure to pay your $10 dues next meeting. This is a onetime payment (lasts your entire time at OU!) and we use that money to continue to feed you guys free pizza and any other activities we decide to do. -Introducing officers and advisors! J -Shelby Edwards- President -Laura Hernandez- Vice President -Annie DelSignore- Secretary/Social Media Chair -Tia Martinez- Treasurer -Deborah Chester and Jocelyn Pedersen- Faculty Advisors -Name Game! -What we’re planning for this year: - September -September 22-28- Fall Book Drive We will start collecting books on the 16th of September and then will set up a booth during Banned Books Week and collect more from Gaylord students. The books we collect will go to the victims of the Moore tornado (“More Books, Moore Love”), and if we have a large amount of children’s books collected, we will donate those to PWSA alums who are elementary school teachers. -October -October 11-12- Turning Pages Children’s Book Festival We were asked to have a booth at this year’s festival. The festival is in Ada, OK, but we will have a carpool for those who want to attend. Basically, we’ll be promoting children’s literacy as a club and doing a story reading for the children attending. More info to come. -October 18-19- Nimrod Conference for Readers and Writers Conference in Tulsa and we will have a carpool for those interested. More info to come. -October 24-25- Halloween Bake Sale Signs up for food and volunteer hours will be decided when it gets closer to time. -October 28-November 1- Neustadt Festival This festival is in Norman and we would love to go as a group. More info to come. -November -NaNoWriMo National Novel Writing Month. Write a novel (50,000 words) in the month of November. More info to come. -Volunteer at Second Chance Animal Shelter- TBA -Zoo Field Trip- TBA -We are currently in the process of getting last semester’s anthology published on Kindle. We’ll let you know when it’s available for purchase! Next semester (Spring 2014) we will accept more submissions for the next anthology which will be YA themed. Write about 3,000-5,000 words on anything so long as it fits the theme. We would love to see your submissions! We’ll also need editors, so that’s something to consider as well.
