He was a good friend and did so much to promote Cervantine studies. I will feel his absence deeply. Like you, I regret it greatly. We had a lot of contacts. Both of us got our Ph.D's from UCLA and did a lot of work with Prof. Silverman. He published my book on Don Quijote. He made quite a dent in the profession with JUan de la Cuesta Monograph Series. He helped good people get published and served the profession well. As you say, we are going to miss him. He was visiting in California and we were scheduled to meet up at the end of the week. Tom was a very dear friend and an excellent colleague during my decade at the University of Delaware (and beyond!). He was a true Renaissance man, and a tremendously chivalrous knight. I already miss him immensely. His website makes me smile: http://www.udel.edu/fllt/faculty/lathrop/ The Cervantes Society of America will certainly mourn this loss. With heavy heart, Vincent Martin
