We were friends for many years, he visited us in Pasadena on occasion, and I was pleased to serve of his editorial board for 20 years. We had lively and, I think, productive discussions. He always made me think and sometimes reconsider. He published my first book. QEPD. Our condolences to the family, Jim and Patricia Parr James A. I benefitted personally and professionally from his enthusiasm, practical help and generous spirit. He was a caballero with a noble heart. He was visiting in California and we were scheduled to meet up at the end of the week. Tom was a very dear friend and an excellent colleague during my decade at the University of Delaware (and beyond!). He was a true Renaissance man, and a tremendously chivalrous knight. I already miss him immensely. His website makes me smile: http://www.udel.edu/fllt/faculty/lathrop/ The Cervantes Society of America will certainly mourn this loss. With heavy heart, Vincent Martin
