“The Amazing Writing Race”
2014 Spring Writing Marathon for Students and Teachers

Oklahoma City Zoo
 
The Oklahoma Writing Project invites you to attend “The Amazing Writing Race.”  This year participants will experience the animals through various writing activities and listening to zoo specialists.   Each teacher may bring 5 students per adult, all grades, K-6. Parents and student teachers are welcome, too.  Spaces are limited please register today!
 
Students and teachers will be challenged to write narrative, opinion or informative pieces while racing around the zoo looking for writing prompts.  All writing activities will be aligned to Common Core State Standards.  Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultants will be placed at each writing challenge checkpoint to guide participants.   Teachers will accompany their students as they race around the zoo attempting to complete all writing prompts.

2014 Spring Celebration of Writing for Students and Teachers

Featured Author:  Sonia Gensler is the author of The Revenant, winner of the Oklahoma Book Award, a Parents’ Choice Silver Award, and featured on the Sequoyah Intermediate Master list. The Dark Between, her latest “lively Victorian mystery” (Kirkus), received praise for its “blending of the empirical and the ethereal” (School Library Journal) and “engaging, page-turning plot" (Examiner.com). Sonia grew up in a small Tennessee town and spent her early adulthood collecting impractical degrees from various Midwestern universities.
