The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an innovative scholar for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the assistant or associate level. We seek a creative and broad thinker who demonstrates the ability to publish in the communication field’s top journals or academic presses. We are particularly interested in scholars with research interests in digital media, who draw on interdisciplinary bodies of theory, and who are open to mixed-methods approaches and collaborations.
The successful candidate will teach classes (two courses per semester) and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as have the opportunity to supervise undergraduate honors and master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. Service to the School, the University, and the academy is also expected.
About Our School: We represent a diverse, collaborative group of researchers who address questions in health, journalism practice and industry, media effects, media history, media law and policy, and political/social/strategic communication. We are also diverse in methodological approaches and welcome scholars who bridge methodological and theoretical traditions. We offer an Interdisciplinary Health Communication Certificate in partnership with the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and we partner with the School of Law in operating the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy, which includes a graduate-level dual degree program. Tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Interpersonal Health Communication. A PhD is required at time of appointment. Associate Professor applicants should have distinguished records of research and teaching appropriate to a tenured appointment. In addition, the ability to secure external funding is highly desirable. Assistant Professor applicants must have or show clear promise of developing a distinguished record of independent research as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching. Target start date is August 16,2015. Salary level is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek an outstanding candidate who specializes in interpersonal health communication, broadly defined. The particular specialization should evince a commitment to understanding communication between people (that is, interaction) whether via face-to-face or mediated channels (or both). The scholarly focus should also be linked to health and/or well-being, including psychosocial health concerns. Some potential research foci include: patient-provider communication, patients' identity management, communication and coping with illness, social support communication, the use of interactive media in coping with health issues, health implications of relational communication, or marital or family interactions about physical or mental health topics.

Successful candidates will join departmental colleagues with varied disciplinary backgrounds in a unit of 24 graduate faculty members. The Department of Film-Video and Media Studies is seeking candidates with the ability to contribute to the broad intellectual and creative life of an interdisciplinary media studies program. As such, we seek to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in international communication starting August 2015. Candidates should have demonstrable research interest and teaching expertise in international communication and related topics (e.g.,comparative media systems). To that end,experiential
knowledge in the form of grounded research exposure and/or an extended period living outside the US is advantageous. Applicants with geopolitical expertise related to the regions/countries within Central/South America or the Middle East are particularly encouraged to apply. Key responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester (including- with required qualification- the possibility of graduate-level teaching and mentoring),service on departmental and college committees and the active pursuit of a substantive research/creative agenda. The School of Communication Studies at James Madison University invites applications for three tenure-track assistant professor positions to begin August 25, 2015. We seek persons who can bring innovative teaching, engaged scholarship, and practical experiences to the classroom and can add to the intellectual climate of the school. Applicants must have experience teaching the basic course and be willing to teach it as well as research methods courses (quantitative, qualitative, and/or rhetorical). One successful applicant will be able to teach rhetorical criticism and/or critical methodologies at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
We seek teacher2scholars with expertise in one or more of the following undergraduate areas of concentration: advocacy studies, cultural communication, environmental communication, health communication, organizational communication and public relations. Successful applicants will complement the strengths of existing faculty.

The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University seeks an entry-level assistant professor who specializes in organizational communication and uses mixed or quantitative research methods. This is an entry-level, tenure-track, nine-month appointment which starts August 16, 2015. 4. Ability to function collegially on a faculty committed to the study and teaching of communication as a liberal art.

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position in intercultural communication at the assistant professor level, in the Department of Communication, to begin in Fall 2015. We invite applications from teacher-scholars whose research focuses on intercultural and/or cultural communication.

Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of specialization along with courses in the department’s core curricula, participating in service, and maintaining an active program of published research. Faculty in our department who have active research programs teach two courses each semester.

Requirements: Earned doctorate by August 1, 2015, documented teaching experience and excellence, and record or promise of published scholarly research.

Communication is a thriving department in the College of Arts and Sciences, with about 200 undergraduate majors, 35 minors, 20 M.A. students, and 18 full-time faculty members. We have an undergraduate curriculum that stresses both the theoretical understanding and professional application of communication research within five different concentrations: advertising/public relations; journalism and media studies; leadership, organizing, and relating; communication, culture, and community; and communication studies. Our program emphasizes cultural competence and ethical reflection across the curriculum. ‪Our master’s program includes courses in the areas of media studies, strategic communication, and communication studies.‬ The department has a Communication Media Center, Studio Production Suite, and several computer labs to support student learning related to technology and production.‬‬‬‬‬
