Dear friends of the Media & Civil Rights History Symposium:

 

The Third Biennial Media and Civil Rights History Symposium is right around the corner! We send this message to encourage you to submit a paper or panel abstract by November 1 and to make plans to attend the Symposium April 2-4, 2015.

 

As you know, we have built a strong and broadly interdisciplinary scholarly community since the inaugural Symposium in 2011. We hope you will return—with colleagues and graduate students in tow!—so we can continue to grow our community and learn from one another’s historical research on the vital relationships between civil rights and media across time.

 

We have a special program in place for the 2015 MCRHS. A quick highlight of the Symposium program:

•  Keynote speaker Peniel E. Joseph, a leading light in Black Power Studies and Professor of History at Tufts University, and author of Stokely: A Life; Dark Days, Bright Nights: From Black Power to Barack Obama; and Waiting ’Til theMidnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America.

•  First-ever Symposium theme: “Black Power, Political Imagination, and the Media”

•  New online abstract submission

As the outgoing Symposium director and the incoming Symposium directors, we are working closely together to assure continuity and program quality. At the same time, we are pushing ahead into new frontiers. We expect this year’s Symposium to be the best ever—same great food, same great location, same beautiful South Carolina spring—and we hope you will come spend time with us.
