Assistant Professor of Public Relations, Tenure-track

Assistant Professor of Public Relations, Tenure-track at Indiana State University

The Department of Communication at Indiana State University seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach in our Public Relations concentration. The individual will also teach core and elective components of the Communication major. Preferred candidates should have earned the Ph.D. or an appropriate terminal degree in Public Relations or Marketing at the time of appointment. ABDs will be considered. The position commences in August of 2015.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate public relations courses, including introductory PR, advertising research methods, public campaigns, media relations, crisis communication, and organizational communication. Opportunities for graduate teaching will also be available. The candidate should possess sufficient academic and/or professional experience to link scholarship with practice. The applicant should be willing to develop and maintain contacts with public relations professionals sufficient to support student work in community engagement, internships, and independent projects. Service assignments will include advising the campus chapter of PRSSA. The normal teaching load for tenured and tenure-track faculty is 4:4 (12 hours per semester). However, a one-course reassignment for scholarship and/or creative activity is possible.

NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY

Position 1: LECTURER: Communication Studies and Assistant Director of Forensics
The School of Communication at Northern Arizona University is seeking a Lecturer who will teach courses in Communication Studies and coach debate while serving as the Assistant Director of Forensics. The successful applicant will teach courses from among the following areas: communication theory, gender and communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, argumentation and debate, environmental communication, legal communication, or other courses as required by the School's Communication Studies degree curriculum and School-wide general Communication curriculum. In addition, the successful applicant will serve as Assistant Director of Forensics and Director of Debate, will work closely with the Director of Forensics to coach members of the NAU Forensics team, will travel to and judge at several intercollegiate forensics tournaments each semester, and will help manage the forensics travel budget. The proposed workload will be the equivalent of four courses per semester; a one-course release is available to compensate for tournament travel. School of Communication lecturers have responsibilities in advising and mentoring and contribute service to the School, University and the discipline. The position begins in August 2015.

Position 2: LECTURER: Strategic Communication (Merchandising emphasis)
The School of Communication at Northern Arizona University is seeking a lecturer to teach courses primarily in the merchandising emphasis within the Strategic Communication major. Other Strategic Communication emphases include advertising and public relations. Applicants should have the ability to teach a variety of merchandising courses. Courses include: merchandise buying, merchandising fundamentals, textiles, history of fashion, twentieth century fashion, evaluating apparel quality, business communication, merchandise promotion, international buying, psychology of dress, trends and research in merchandising, merchandise math, visual merchandising, and professional practices in merchandising. Additionally, applicants should have the ability to teach within other School of Communication programs such as other strategic communication emphases, photography, or communication. The proposed workload will be teaching a 4/4 load, in addition to responsibilities in advising and mentoring and contribute service to the School, University, and the discipline. The position begins August 2015.

Position 3: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE: Strategic Communication
The School of Communication at Northern Arizona University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Strategic Communication major which includes the following emphasis areas: advertising, merchandising and public relations. Applicants must have the ability to teach in a variety of undergraduate classes within the following topic areas: writing for public relations, public relations case studies, advertising copywriting and design, social media engagement, online advertising, online public relations, advertising campaigns and public relations campaigns. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to program development, advising/mentoring and other governance or service to the university or discipline. The position is teaching focused, with a typical load of four courses per semester. Professional or scholarly engagement is encouraged. This position begins in August 2015.

Position 4: LECTURER: Visual Communication
The School of Communication at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a Lecturer of Visual Communication position (Graphic Design/Interactive Design). The visual communication program offers a creative and intellectually stimulating environment, with a history of over fifty years. We nurture our students to focus on their role as designers and their use of visual communication techniques and theory for various media and practices. Responsibilities include teaching, advising at the undergraduate level, and service requirements. Candidate should have a strong knowledge of current industry-standard software (Adobe Creative Suite). The candidate will teach lower division graphic design courses, such as design history, design theory, introduction to graphic design software, beginning-level graphic design, typography and/or interactive design classes. The proposed position is teaching focused, with a typical workload of four courses per semester as well as advising, mentoring, service to the school, university and discipline. The position begins in August 2015.
