Getting Started Write Away!
Using Picture Books and Authors to Teach the Six Traits of Writing in the K-2 Classroom
Are you trying to find ways for children to apply the writing process? This workshop will help integrate the use of picture books and authors to address the six traits of writing while establishing and developing your classroom community.
3rd-5th Grade Session Led by Kim Schooler
Beginning the Year the "Write" Way
“A notebook can be a clearing in the forest of your life, a place where you can be alone and content as you play with outrage and wonder, details and gossip, language and dreams, plots and subolots, perceptions and small epiphanies.”Ralph Fletcher. This is the love we seek to instill in our students. However, from some students you hear, “I don't know how to write, I don't have anything to write about!" Participants in this interactive workshop will learn to build a community of writers from the very first day of school, the writing process, and how to implement the six traits into writing.
6th-8th Grade Session Led by Melanie Vincent
Beginning in the Middle: How to use the six traits to start your writing program for the year in MIDDLE school
In this hands on workshop, teachers will learn about the six traits of writing and how to incorporate them into their classrooms with literature and writing activities. Teachers will leave with activities that can be used in their classrooms immediately and will encourage even their most hesitant writers.
9th-12th Grade Session Led by Jason StephensonBUILDING WRITERS FROM THE STARTWriting is an essential part of the any high school classroom, but sometimes it's challenging knowing how to begin. In this interactive workshop, learn strategies for building a community of writers who pick their own topics, create drafts, offer feedback, and actually revise. We'll also learn about the six traits of writing and how they can be assessed to make grading more efficient.
