This collaboration provides a singular opportunity to examine bees from two drastically different subspecies, typically found in different geographies, in one common garden located at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara Turkey. This international collaboration combines the capabilities of our Turkish collaborators in genetics and ecology with the behavioral physiology expertise of co-PI's Tugrul Giray (UPR Rio Piedras Campus), and the animal behavioral experience of Dr. Charles Abramson (Oklahoma State Univ.) and Harrington Wells (UTulsa). This 11 week program is perfect for undergraduate students looking for a unique summer research experience while gaining graduate level experience working in a cutting-edge lab at a top-ranked research university. Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the program, now in its ninth year, introduces undergraduate minority students, disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities* to the field of biophysics. Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the program combines lab experience with lectures, seminars, and team-building activities.
