Dear Friend,

It’s never too early to start thinking about the summer!

If you are an undergraduate student looking for a unique summer research experience and would like to get a feel for graduate school while working in a cutting-edge lab at a top-ranked research university, then take time this winter break to apply to the Biophysical Society’s Summer Research Program in Biophysics.

Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, this 11-week program, now in its ninth year, introduces undergraduate minority students, disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities* to the field of biophysics. Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the program combines lab experience with lectures, seminars, and team-building activities. All fees, housing, and most travel costs required to participate are covered, and participants receive a stipend to cover living expenses.

Biophysics applies the power of physics, chemistry, and math to understanding health, preventing disease, and inventing cures. The Summer Research Program in Biophysics gives you the opportunity to conduct your own biophysics research and learn more about this exciting, interdisciplinary field.

Students both familiar and unfamiliar with biophysics can benefit greatly from this introductory program which uses biophysics to explore a variety of disciplines and topics, from biomedical engineering, to cell biology, to systems biology and structural chemistry. Successful participants in the past have had majors in biology, computer science, chemistry, mathematics, and physics- to name just a few. This program provides great preparation for graduate school, includes professional development, and provides you with a network of peers you can rely on as you advance in your career. We hope you will apply or consider sharing this flyer with your students or peers!

The priority deadline for applications is February 15, 2016.

Additional details and the application can be found on the summer course website.

If you have any questions about the program, eligibility, or the application process, just let me know!

Best regards,

Daniel
