Advertising and Public Relations


The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications seeks an assistant professor, tenure-track, to join our award-winning advertising and public relations sequence starting in August 2017. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in advertising, public relations, marketing, or a related field; professional experience in advertising, public relations, marketing or a related field; and evidence of successful teaching at the college level. The ideal candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in advertising and public relations, engage in curriculum development and course, programmatic and college assessment activities. We are particularly interested in a candidate with a contemporary research and/or creative activity agenda who will build and strengthen our advertising and public relations program. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach skills-based and theoretical courses, including strategic writing and campaigns, and expertise in one or more of the areas listed below.

 

• Content strategy
• Digital communication
• Fundraising
• Public relations writing
• Social media

 

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in advertising, public relations, marketing or a related field. An ABD will be considered with the expectation that the Ph.D. be completed within one year of the position’s starting date; professional experience in advertising, public relations, marketing or a related field; evidence of successful teaching at the college level; a record of publication of research and/or creative work and demonstrated skill in one or more of the following: content strategy, digital communication, fundraising, public relations writing and/or social media.

 

Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in advertising, public relations, marketing or a related field; significant professional experience in public relations within a digital media environment; evidence of successful undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in public relations; online teaching experience; experience with curriculum development; evidence of published research in relevant peer-review journals and/or equivalent; and a record of external support for research and/or creative work.
