I 'm hoping that as leaders of NAJA around the country you can help New America Media (NAM) get the word around to your members about our latest fellowship program for working reporters. We've been gratified to receive funding for our 8th year of the Journalists in Aging Fellows Program and have set April 14 as the application deadline. This year we're offering 18 fellowships -- half for reporters in the ethnic media and half from mainstream outlets. It comes with a $1,500 stipend plus all expenses paid to attend our training on issues in aging at this summer's World Congress of Gerontology & Geriatrics.Paul
The new batch of Fellows will bring the 8-year total to 136 reporters from the mainstream and ethnic media. To date, they have posted about 450 stories on all aspects of aging, a wonderful archive considering that issues in aging (not just articles on how to retire wealthier and sexier) continue to remain sorely under-covered.
Some past fellows have been from "Navajo Times," "Indian Country Today" and KNBA Native Alaskan radio. But, frankly, we had no Native America/Alaskan applicants last year and we need more help from the NAJA community to take advantage of this great program for the elders and the heritage they bring to new generations. Anyhow, I'd very much appreciate your help in getting this out via your networks.

Journalism Fellowship on Aging Deadline, April 14: The deadline is April 14 to apply for the Journalists in Aging Fellows program, a project of New America Media (NAM) and the Gerontological Society of America (GSA). A total of 18 journalists will be selected – half from the ethnic media and half from general-audience press – in any medium. Proposed projects can be on any topic in aging, such as health, mental health, housing, social services, immigration, ageism/social justice, work or creativity.
