MAC family,


   First, a big thanks to Meta for the reminder about the new edition of Race, Gender, Class & the Media!  I will spread the word on my Twitter feed and other social media. 

   Second, I'd like to note that MAC members Sharon Bramlett-Solomon and E.K. Daufin, as well as other participants, did a fabulous job on the Dearth of Diversity panel at AEJMC's annual meeting in Chicaago. As panel moderator,  I said a few words about the late Evonne Whitmore, the Kent State professor who tirelessly researched issues of diversity, and held leadership positions in AEJMC. 

   Finally, I'd like to thank E.K. for all of her contributions to AEJMC and MAC over the years. E.K. was MAC membership chair for 20 years! As you know, E.K. retired from her teaching at Alabama State this year, though she will continue with speaking engagements as an independenet scholar. We wish E.K. the best.

MAC Family,
I hope this note reaches all of you doing well and preparing for the fall season.  I'm sending special prayers to all of our friends in the path of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey, hoping that you will be safe and dry.

I hate that I missed seeing you in Chicago, but a family matter needed my urgent attention.  All is well now, and I am looking forward to Washington, DC for our annual meeting.  I also hope to see some of you at the AEJMC Mid-Winter meeting that OU is set to host in early 2018.

First, I'd like your help in spreading the news about three openings we at Gaylord are trying to fill for people with digital skills.  I've attached three faculty job openings calling for digital experience in three broad ways: design, writing, and technology/coding.  Although the positions are attached to the advertising area, successful candidates will likely be involved in cross-disciplinary teaching across the college, while maintaining strong industry contacts through various networks. We do not have separate departments in the Gaylord, per se, but house the advertising faculty with the public relations faculty under the strategic communication area.  Our other two areas include Journalism (digital and print) and Creative Media Production (video/TV and Professional Writing).  As always, we are interested in having as broad and diverse a pool as possible from which to select talented candidates.  Each of these pdfs has embedded links with which candidates can use to apply directly online.  I would also encourage candidates to signal their interest with a brief email to Dean Ed Kelley ([log in to unmask]) and our Interim Associate Dean Ralph Beliveau ([log in to unmask]).

Secondly, I'm now Editor of the Taylor & Francis Journal, Communication Booknotes Quarterly.  This publication's goal is to provide the broadest possible reviews of books in journalism and related areas.  I want to hear from MAC members about books you've published (late-2015, 2016 & 2017).  I publish descriptive (short) reviews as well as longer, critical essay reviews about books or a current theme relevant to publishing and our field.  My first issue debuts in October, but if you have something to share, either mail me the book or drop me a line (put CBQ JOURNAL) in the subject line.

I'm also recruiting reviewers.  In a few days, I will share more details about how to sign up if you are interested.  I can assign books or you can pitch something...if I assign something, I will provide some style guidelines.
