Membership:
Please help us recruit new members! MAC is offering free admission to the 2018 AEJMC MAC conference luncheon (in Washington DC) for the person who recruits the most new MAC members.

MAC will recognize the winner during the 2018 business meeting and on our social media.

Programming
The MAC Division is slated to host four co-sponsored panels and two solo-sponsored panels at the 2018 AEJMC Conference.

Panel topics are interesting and cutting age. Details will be provided in the upcoming newsletter.

Mentorship Program
Kathleen McElroy successfully paired all mentors and mentees last semester. The program has grown from four to 20 participants. We are looking forward to recognizing mentors and mentees at the 2018 AEJMC Conference in DC.

MAC Faculty & Student Grants
We are excited to announce the MAC division received approval to offer two grants this year–one for faculty ($500) and one for graduate students ($250).

Midwinter Conference:
MAC Midwinter Conference Paper Chair Melody Fisher received 19 submissions for the MAC division and accepted 12 papers for presentation.

The AEJMC Midwinter Conference will be held March 2-3 at Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Oklahoma.
There will be no on-site registration for the conference so you will have to register online following this link: https://tinyurl.com/AEJMCMidwinter

Rates for registration:
Graduate/undergraduate student early bird registration (by Feb. 17, 2018) - $60
Faculty early bird registration (by Feb. 17, 2018) - $70
Graduate/undergraduate student standard registration (after Feb. 17, 2018) - $65
Faculty standard registration (after Feb. 17, 2018) - $75

Discerning Diverse Voices Symposium
The 9th Annual Discerning Diverse Voices Symposium will be held as a pre-conference to the South-East Colloquium, and that the abstract submission deadline is Feb. 1. Since 2008, The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences’ Communication and Diversity Forum has sponsored the symposium.

This year’s ninth symposium will take place on the eve of the 2018 AEJMC Southeast Colloquium on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Gorgas Library. The Symposium features student, faculty and staff research and creative activity that addresses the communication and information needs of diverse populations. The purpose of the symposium is to encourage research about diversity and communication in all of its manifestations.

Minorities and Communication Division
Riva Brown and Joseph Erba have updated MAC’s paper call for the 2018 conference to be held in Washington DC (see below). We encourage all members to consider submitting an article to the MAC division.

The AEJMC listserve is intended to help members communicate with each other outside of the conference. AEJMAC-L an online discussion group established for members of the Minorities and Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Information about issues related to people of color, employment opportunities and research subjects are welcome.
