Hello Colleagues,

Greetings from the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (GPiBS) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center!

 

A new year has arrived, and we are excited to welcome our 19^th class of graduate students into our program. Over the past few years, we have made considerable changes for the better, and have doubled-down on our recruitment efforts in the state.  As such, I am reaching out to you all, as University and College representatives throughout the state, to inform you of a few of these changes, and to request your help in my recruitment efforts for our program.

 

• First, two years ago, we removed our application fee so that is free to apply online. This year, as part of our involvement in the national “GRExit” movement in the biomedical sciences, we have removed the GRE requirement due to concerns of its inability to predict graduate student success and the inherent bias of the exam itself. Therefore, starting in October, our applicants will not be required to submit GRE scores to accompany their applications, making our entire application completely free for all national applications.

 

• Second, we have done our best to improve the online application process and provide clarity to our program’s curriculum, benefits, and available mentors on our website. We have launched our new-and-improved website with better instructions on how to apply and what we have to offer our students. Here is the website link: www.ouhsc.edu/gpibs. Step-by-step instructions for the application can be found under “application information”. You can also find us on twitter @OUHSC_GPiBS for continued updates.

 

• Lastly, I am our primary recruiter for not only the GPiBS program, but also our Summer Undergraduate Research Programs. I would greatly appreciate the chance to send recruitment materials to you or come visit your respective schools to discuss our programs. Usually, I visit with any biology/pre-health club that might have students with interests in research opportunities in the Biomedical Sciences. I spend a great deal of time on recruitment trips throughout the Fall, so please reach out if you can envision a good venue for me to connect with your students.

 

For those of you who have worked with me in the past, thanks for your support and I hope to continue to work with you in the future. And, if we have yet to meet, I look forward to working with you and meeting your students in the near future.
