The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides all central IT services to the institution. A critical success factor is having a technically advanced team that provides cyber-infrastructure services in support of our computational researchers, and their academic and industry partners. The Director, Cyber-Infrastructure Researcher Support, is a key member of the OIT senior leadership team. This position is responsible for reaching out and helping campus researchers: * Determine how cyber-infrastructure services can best help them advance their research. * Be adequately trained on using cyber-infrastructure services. * Get maximum value out of the local High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster farm. * Leverage HPC services at TACC and other national centers. * Leverage local and national High Performance Networking (HPN) research networks. * Leverage appropriate storage solutions. * Leverage appropriate data visualization platforms. * Develop grant proposals. This leader's primary focus area is being the principle point person for UTD researchers needing cyber-infrastructure services. He/she will report directly to the Senior Director of Researcher Services, and will lead a team of 2-5 full time staff, graduate/research assistants and students. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related area of study with 5 years minimum in computer systems administration in higher education and 3 years of computer networking in higher education. Preferred Education and Experience PhD degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related area of study; Deep understanding and proficiency with linux, OpenHPC/Rocks and many open source and commercial computational software packages. Certification in Linux System Administration; various networking certifications; various security certifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Direct supervisory responsibility, leadership, and strategic planning for the Cyber-Infrastructure team. Interaction with national programs and organizations (e.g. CARCC, Internet2, ACI-REFs, ACCESS, SCINet, NRP/PRP) focused on research support and professionalization of CI practitioners. 2. Work closely with the University of Texas at Dallas OIT executive and senior leadership teams to set the strategic direction in alignment with the university's mission and goals. 3. Provide advanced computing support to faculty and students in their computational research by assisting with conceptual and practical realization of the research goals using local, regional, cloud, and/or national advanced computational resources such as TACC, SDSC, NCSA, PSC. 4. Lead development and execution of instructor-led training focused on advanced computing. May provide trainings and course curriculum for workforce development. Align education, outreach, and training programs with national standards and initiatives. 5. Provide research development by actively pursuing advanced computing-related funding opportunities, grants and partnerships. Work with University researchers and collaborators to understand their computing needs and to develop solutions and funding strategies, thereby enhancing the productivity of their research. Further develop national level grant writing practices within the CI team. 6. Participate in professional development activities (e.g., training, conferences, etc.), advance personal knowledge in computational science, and develop individual research projects. Present at local, regional, national and potentially international meetings. 7. Establish a suite of helpful PI support SLAs, and meet agreements. Optimize usage of the local HPC, HTC, GPU and specialty clusters. Provide effective HPC data management services. 8. Lead HPC related science development within the CI team and campus. Develop MOU's and lead science efforts with outreach research partners. 9. Be a strong, strategic, and effective thinker that evangelizes and enables the OIT vision. 10. Accompany and or represent the Senior Director, CTO or CIO as necessary with academic offices, campus stakeholders, industry partners, and vendors at the local, regional and national level. 11.
