Presentation: Navigating Food Insecurity: Understanding the Complexities of the Food Environment

This presentation delves into the complexities of food environments and their impact on food security. In this session, Dr. Basey will explore the factors that influence individuals' ability to access, prepare, and consume food, shedding light on often-overlooked aspects of the food environment.

The presentation introduces Dr. Basey’s study about hunger and food insecurity in Georgia. The study examines how household characteristics, personal factors, and socioeconomic status in any region of the United States can shape food insecurity and its effects on health. It underscores the importance of understanding the food environment from a household perspective, considering food access, preparation, and consumption.

Presenter: Dr. Stephanie Basey is a freelance rural health researcher who is passionate about demystifying research and making it more accessible to the broader community. With a Ph.D. in Rural Health Sciences from Mercer University School of Medicine and a Master of Health Sciences in Health Care Quality from George Washington University, Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the field.

The webinar is free but registration is required. Unable to attend the live session? It will be recorded and posted on the NNLM YouTube channel.

Best wishes,
