D2L and Mac users with Safari next fall

Hi everyone,

As you probably know, the next version of Mac OS X (called Leopard)
is set for commercial release in a couple months. One of the new
features that is of campus-wide interest is compatibility between D2L
and Safari, the default web browser for the Mac. Safari has worked
fairly well in D2L except for WYSIWYG text editing, and that is why
it has not been officially supported. Yet when Leopard ships, Safari
should be compatible with WYSIWYG text editing in web pages. Here's

a tip sheet on the "My Library" homepage, that I'll share with the group
when it becomes available.

And, a HUGE BRAVO!!! For the library tutorials page. It is extremely
helpful to students and something that we all should promote.

for what it's worth I've gotten INCREDIBLY positive feedback from
students about creating their own Library homepage. so far, none of the
students had known that they could do that! same also with the Library
tutorials - by far, the most popular one they have chosen is the
tutorial explaining the basics of LORA. [...]

hi folks, I wanted to share a very nifty website that creates a scrolling marquee with any message you want to display! it comes out as a simple little image file that you can use on any webpage, inside Desire2Learn, etc., anywhere online that you would use an image.

This is fascinating. The aggregation of the blogs makes this
approach very promising, since students can easily keep track of each
others' blogs. Thanks for sharing this!!!

I will definitely consider switching to blogs from EZBoard (which
doesn't suffer from many of the D2L limitations for discussion
boards). But blogs may still be easier for students. So please give
us another update toward the end of the semester! [...]

hi everybody, now that we are 3 weeks into the semester, I thought I
would share a quick update about the blogging experiment I tried this
semester. thanks to the INCREDIBLY simple Bloglines blogging service,
this experiment has turned out to be extremely successful, far more than
I had even hoped for.

--- students find it much easier to blog than to use the Desire2Learn
discussion board (in particular, they are finding it much easier to
include images, which was one of my main goals in switching to blogs) [...]

thanks Sheryl! I am replying to the whole list, since it is always
interesting to hear how people are using blogs (it is a very flexible
technology).

I agree exactly about the stifling 'feel' of the Blackboard system.
that's why I switched to EZBoard for class discussion - being able to
easily add images, for example, was really important to me (EZBoard has
an HTML editor that works a lot like the Blogger one). [...]

offering through the IT courses next week on February 14, 3:00PM -
5:00PM in EL 250.

I know at least two faculty members (Brad Raley and the AWARD-WINNING
Marielle Hoefnagels) who are using blogs as an easy alternative to

hi folks, although I was not at the meeting about accessibility last
semester, I wanted to share with you something I just learned about - a
free open-source plug-in to simulate a text-only screen reader. it is
called FANGS, i.e. like JAWS which is the main commercially available
screen reader.

as noted in this blog entry, it has been difficult for developers to see
what their pages look like in JAWS since you cannot get a free copy of
JAWS to use for testing. that is the niche that FANGS is designed to

seen the new email service - very exciting! IT has brought back a
feature that used to be available with the old coursenet system: there
is now an email "address" for your classes that you can use to send

EXCELLENT site, highly searchable, very well organized, with a range of
