Shirley,

I think these look great, but have 2 comments. IMHO, I would combine the first 2. They seem redundant to me. Secondly, Steve Self is really good, but can he conduct 2 round tables at one time?

Thanks.

Subject: Re: Posters - Round table topics

Sorry to be slow in response - there are 11 topics with volunteers who
are willing to lead. I think that looks like a good number for our
first year in this format. I also think it is an interesting array of
topics.

In some cases there are 2 names, so I think we can count them as
Facilitator and Recorder. I think I need to develop some type of
instructions for them. So we need to "talk" about "publishing" the
results of the conversations. I think that was part of the original
idea. Tim and I can probably take care of that, but if any of you have
comments or ideas, I would be glad to hear them.

I told these people that I would be back with them later in the year
with some specifics, because we were working this much up at the
beginning of the year, I think.

Research 101 - What it is, types, etc - Karen Keller
Research 102 - I have an idea, now what? - Joy Harriman
The changing world of reference - Steven Self & Margaret Peloquin
Archives - how to maintain an institution's history? - Beth Treaster
Coping with and using usage statistics - Cathy Montoya
Developing programs for consumers - Karen Vargas
Scholarly publishing (open access, etc) - Mary Ryan
Clinical Decision support tools (point of care databases) - Dohn Martin
Article linkers/ URL openers - what are your options and optimum use?
Mary
                                             Hawks?? Check with her -
knows techy side - this isn't set yet.
Interlibrary loans - New Directions of ILL (ILIAD, ISO, Odyssey) - Dena
Plaisted
Nursing - Stephen Self & Susan Bader

Ana & Taryn mentioned an extension of the deadline (with no date
details) in the article they submitted to the SCC Connection on Friday.
So send it out in the coming week.

If all are in agreement I will send out another call- with the extended
deadline next week. Martha

We have had 6 contributed paper abstracts so far (5 in the last 2 days).
I support extending the deadline to the end of July.

Hi all -
I think the end of July would give us (the LAC) plenty of time. It just
seems to me that the earlier submission deadline was based on a
paper/mail world, where whoever the reviewers were had to have things
mailed to them and mail them back to a central point. With online
submission and email communications & attachments, you don't need to
allow that much time.
If we set the extended deadline to the end of July, say Friday the 28th,
and gave the reviewers 2 weeks to look them over (until Aug11) and get
back to people, and then we (LAC) got the final list by Aug 18th, we'd
still have plenty of time.
Those of you with more experience should speak up - and loudly - if I'm
being way too optimistic with my timing.

The preliminary program for the registration packet is, after all,
preliminary, and doesn't have to include all the individual paper &
poster titles - just the times for the sessions. We just need things in
time to do the final program, and make sure everything has room to
occur.

How many submissions for each activity do we have as of today?
Contributed papers?
Posters? (Vicki said 3)
Roundtables?
TechExpo?
Just remember to include the poster size in the reminder to the deadline
extension, please!

The things we really need firmed up in order to put up the registration
are the Roundtable Topics (if you want those available as sign-ups) and
the Continuing Education offerings.

Again, if I'm off in my estimates of how much time we need on our end,
let me know!

Nancy

I think a lot of folks were waiting until after MLA, and then forgot. I
have a poster to submit, but haven't yet, either.

I am really surprised at the low number! I hope we can extend the
deadline. Send out emails begging?

With only three submissions, we need to extend the deadline and resend
the call for papers, posters, etc. Nancy, what would be a good date to
set to allow you enough time to get the preliminary program printed?

What are your thoughts on this? What has been done in the past? We
only have three submissions to date.

Vicki,

We were wondering if we are bound by the June 15 deadline for posters.

I just came up with an idea yesterday, and Craig Elam likes it. He felt
that you would take submissions a little later, if requested.

I will see if we can do this idea. It would be a survey. I think it is
more appropriate as a poster, rather than a contributed paper. I wasn't
even thinking about presenting anything, but something just popped into
my head!
