Call for Papers for 2017 MLA

Session organized by the Cervantes Society of America

"Material Cervantes"

This panel seeks to explore the works of Cervantes through an interdisciplinary lens of material culturalism. What do material objects reveal about early modern cultural practices? How is material culture reproduced and contested in Cervantes’ works? Paper topics may include but are not limited to:

Consumerism and consumption

The meaning of ownership of material and immaterial things

Objects and narration

Landscapes as material culture

The novel in the novel

Clothing

Household items
