Estimados colegas cervantistas,

Favor de ver el mensaje de abajo y comunicarse directamente con el amable colega, el Prof. Bruce R. Burningham <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>, nuevo editor general de Cervantes: Bulletin of the Cervantes Society of America. La digitalización de textos (y de filmes) es indispensable hoy día para preservar documentos (en otro momento habrá otros modos, obviamente) y hacerlos asequibles de forma inmediata a todo el mundo. Gracias.

Saludos cordiales de

Robert

Subject: Hard Copies of Back Issues of Cervantes

Dear Robert,

Please forward this message to your Cervantes list.

Thanks,
Bruce

Dear Cervantistas,

As you probably know, I am the new Editor of Cervantes: Bulletin of the Cervantes Society of America.

One of the projects we have recently undertaken is to upgrade the CSA's web presence. And an important part of this upgrade is the possible conversion of the archived "html" versions of certain back issues of Cervantes into "pdf" versions.

Currently, pdfs are available for all issues of the journal from 19.2 (Fall 1999) to 31.1 (Spring 2011). With some exceptions, everything prior to 19.2 exists in html format. (See: http://www.h-net.org/~cervantes/bcsalist.htm)

As far as I can tell, the most promising option for creating high-quality pdfs of the pre-1999 back issues would be to physically cut the pages from hard copies of the necessary back issues so that these pages could be laid flat on a scanner in order to create pdfs that (while certainly not perfect) wouldn't contain shadows, warped text, etc.

As a preliminary step toward ascertaining the viability of this option, I write to ask if there might be anyone out there willing to donate hard copies of back issues of Cervantes to this endeavor.

Please contact me if you know of any DISPOSABLE back issues of Cervantes (vols. 1-19 [1981-1999]) that might be available for this act of "creative destruction."

Cheers,
Bruce
