Subject: GEM summer course applications are open!

Hello,

Do you know an early career college student who is new to, but enthusiastic about science and is curious to find out what scientific research is like? Well, this might be just the course to get their feet wet.

Please help us reach students who would be interested in this opportunity. First generation college students, women, and students of underrepresented group(s) are encouraged to apply.

Global Environmental Microbiology (GEM) Summer Course

Undergraduates (from 2- and 4-year institutions) are invited to apply.

Come to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and travel with us to Catalina Island for microbial ecology lab/field work, exploration, and camaraderie.

Program dates: June 11 - 30, 2017

Applications are due February 1, 2017

C-DEBI, funded by NSF, will cover student costs for travel, housing, and food.

A lot more information (and the link to the application) can be found at this website:

http://www.darkenergybiosphere.org/education-diversity/for-undergraduates/gem-course/

Must be at least 18 years old, have taken one college-level science course (in any subject), and a be a permanent resident or U.S. citizen to participate in the program.

Attached are two documents: one is a pdf that contains two copies of the flyer on a single 8.5"x11" page and the other is a png of one copy of the announcement. Please share widely on various platforms - and in hard copy!

Thank you very much for your help and your time,

Gwen Noda
