The Department of Communication & Theatre, in the School of Humanities
and Social Sciences, seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor to support the Communication Studies Option area within the
Speech Communication Major beginning August 2015. 

The successful candidate will teach Communication Theory, Communication
Research (quantitative and qualitative methods), Public Speaking as well
as some combination of Interpersonal Communication, Small Group
Communication, Intercultural Communication and/or Persuasion. The
department is particularly interested in candidates with additional
expertise teaching in one the following areas: conflict resolution/negotiation,
organizational leadership, health communication, social movements,
contemporary rhetoric, or social media/technology studies/digital
communication. 

The Department of Communication & Theatre offers a Major in Speech
Communication with options in Communication Studies, Public Relations,
Theatre and Broadcasting. The department includes 14 faculty members,
four support staff, and 468 students. 

Required:  •A Ph.D. in Communication or near-completion (terminal degree
must be completed by time of reappointment to second year).
•Ability to teach Communication Theory, Communication Research (quantitative
and qualitative methods), Public Speaking as well as some combination of
Interpersonal Communication, Small Group Communication, Intercultural
Communication and/or Persuasion.
•Ability to conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for
face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats.
•Evidence of interest in developing new courses related to the
Communications Studies option.
•Evidence of ability to teach diverse student populations.
•Successful interview and teaching demonstration.
•Three successful background checks: Criminal Background Check (Act 34);
Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151); and FBI Federal Criminal
History-Fingerprinting (Act 114).
Preferred:  •Ability to teach in more than one of the following areas:
conflict resolution/negotiation, organizational leadership, health
communication, social movements, contemporary rhetoric, or social media/technology
studies/digital communication.
•Experience developing curriculum.
•Experience conducting periodic course assessment.
•Experience teaching in distance learning formats.
