tenure-track assistant professor: mass communication and journalism 

The Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of
Maine seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor to conduct
research and teach in the area of mass communication and journalism
starting September 1, 2015.  Responsibilities include teaching graduate
courses in mass communication, undergraduate journalism courses
including multiplatform journalism, and developing a program of
scholarship.  Duties also include graduate student advising, and
department, college, university and professional service.  We encourage
collaboration with faculty in the department and across disciplines, and
pursuit of extramural grants.
 
Located in beautiful central Maine, the University of Maine, Orono, is
the flagship campus of the University of Maine System and is the
principal graduate institution in the state.  It is the state’s land
grant and sea grant university, enrolling nearly 12,000 students. The
Department offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees.  Further information about

of Maine is located just 60 miles from the Bar Harbor area and Acadia
National Park and two hours from Portland, offering access to a wealth
of outdoor activities and a thriving restaurant scene.
 
Qualifications:  Completed PhD required in Mass Communication,
Journalism or related field by the start date, evidence of research
productivity or research potential, and documentation of high quality
teaching at the college level.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Northern Illinois University Department of Communication invites
applications for an anticipated position, Undergraduate Program Advisor.
This is a full-time, twelve-month, supportive professional staff
position. The appointment will begin as soon as the position is filled. 

Duties: advise all undergraduate majors in communication studies and
journalism, with special attention to such matters as academic progress,
curriculum requirements, departmental policies, and construction of
students' course schedules; advise students pursuing undergraduate
minors and undergraduate certificates in which the Department
participates; serve as main departmental contact for Ask My Major e-mail
service; consult with Director of Undergraduate Studies about enrollment
trends, course scheduling, and other programmatic concerns; perform
other duties as requested by Director of Undergraduate Studies,
Assistant Chair, or Department Chair; serve as principal liaison with
College and NIU advising personnel. May teach up to one class per year
for overload pay upon request and subject to qualifications,
programmatic need, and approval by Department. 
REQUIRED SKILLS
Master's degree in communication, journalism, or media studies at time
of application; excellent oral and written language abilities; strong
interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills; experience
working with diverse student populations; ability to analyze student
enrollment data and trends; ability to multitask and to manage details;
proficiency in word-processing and spreadsheet software applications,
including the ability to create and edit Excel spreadsheets and Word
documents. 
PREFERRED SKILLS
College-level advising experience in communication; experience with
student-record software and other advising-related software;
college-level teaching experience.

instructors, and seven supportive professional staff members. The NIU
main campus is located near the western suburbs of Chicago and offers
