This comes with a request .. Can you suggest any expert or organisation in Central Asia who can help us with some data on media and ICTs for the Beijing plus 15 review. We need inputs by end of this week .. Friday...
Anybody involved in human rights and gender work will be great; also any academics that you know? The 2 questions we want answered are as follows:
1. What are the big issues in the changing media and ICT landscape today, that have implications for gender, equity and social justice - be they relating to infrastructure, technological innovations, media ownership, regulation, knowledge, content, representation...... (It would be great to have examples, case studies, best practices, good and retrograde policies, that explain your points)
2. What are the policy issues here? What have policies not addressed and should address?
The context of the UNESCAP process is as follows:
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is
organizing a high-level meeting in September 2009 as a regional review of
the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (â'"Beijing +15â'). In
that connection, we are organizing an expert group meeting 13-15 May 2009
in Bangkok to hear from people with expertise in various areas as well as
from various sub-regions of Asia-Pacific in order to a) identify and
analyze emerging and persistent challenges for the region relevant to
achieving gender equality; b) propose an organizational and conceptual
framework for the high-level meeting.
