Dear all,
I want to add my thanks to Juan and the rest of the coordinating commitee for an enriching experience.
As I've mentioned to Juan, OM is one community where I feel I really belong. The level of energy, the commitment and dedication, the analysis and the new thinking are all very stimulating and inspiring.
I hope to be able to submit to at least one of the publications.
Cheers,
Mavic

Dear OURMedia friends (alguien podría traducer al español por favor? Toni? Claudia? Sergio? Jeanine? Lo que pasó en Sidney es importante y es una lástima que no llegue en español!)
OURMedia 6: Sustainable Futures: Roles and Challenges for Community, Alternative and Citizens' Media in the 21st Century was a spectacular success. Held in Sydney and sponsored by the Technology University –Sydney, Information + Cultural Exchange (ICE), and the University of Western Sydney, OURMedia 6 had approximately 130 presentations from people in 35 countries, representing over one hundred organisations.
OURMedia 6 participants came from Australia, Argentina, Bangladesh, the Basque Country, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Ethiopia, Fiji Islands, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand (Aotearoa), Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, Turkey, UK, Uruguay, USA.
More important, the conference continued and brought to a new level the OURMedia tradition of opening communication spaces for dialogue and bridge building among academics, practitioners, artists, and activists. It is hard to describe the intensity that took over the event during the four days of the conference in terms of discussions, dialogue, connections, alliances. It was like seeing a community being woven. Perhaps some of the feedback we have already received speaks for itself (this is only a sample of the messages received):
"I would like to add my thanks to Juan and the other organisers for what must be a defining conference" (refers to Juan Salazar, the main organizer)
"Thanks for organising it. It was very inspiring."
" It was really the best conference I have been to, an amazing range of people and interests and an even more amazing willingness to work with the respective differences. This does not happen that often, or possibly never, in the academia I know, especially when non academics are involved.”
"Thanks so much for the fantastic opportunity to see what you have been
doing at ICE. I was really impressed with how lively a place it is, the
range of people/communities you work with, and the collaborative nature of the projects both politically and creatively. "
"Had a magical time at om6. Gives me hope in the world. Sometimes it can seem like the problems are so overwhelming and the people doing good so few this was a welcome antidote!"
"Thank you for collectively creating a really terrific event.
Since I left the conference many new ideas have started to percolate."
"It was by far the best conference I've been in my life..."
"what a powerful experience we had in Sydney, learning from one another, making new connections, rediscovering old ones, finding inspiration, and building community. I left with a sense of hope at what can be accomplished at such gatherings, especially if organised in the creative, human and activist spirit that OM6 was convened. Above all, I am inspired by the transformative cultural and political power of media and communication when taken up in the hands of the people."
"It was a terrific gathering - inspiring, engaging and heartfelt"
"Thanks to all for making OURMedia 6 such a warm and smart space of
encounter."
“Thanks so much Juan, for making it happen. OURMedia 6 went well beyond the vision some of us had back in 2001."
"I think you did an amazing job to bring to Sydney such amazing speakers from diverse backgrounds and especially from such interesting perspectives. I admire your effort and work."

Some logistics issues:
* We have added all OURMedia 6 participants to this list, which is the main communication channel of OURMedia. To post messages please send to [log in to unmask] You can see the list's archives at http://lists.ou.edu/ searching the ourmedia-l list.
OURMedia has always tried to break language barriers and erode English hegemony, thus when possible, please post in more than one language. Please always be aware that not all our members are English speakers. If you want out of the list, just send an email to [log in to unmask]
* Three working groups emerged from OURMedia 6: 1) governance and financing; 2) communication (web page, wiki, lists, publications, etc.); and 3) next conference (Where? When? Who?) In the near future the working groups’ facilitators will be in contact and ask for input, volunteers, etc.
OURMedia 6 was a tremendous boost of energy for our network. Let’s all take advantage of it. I cannot end without saying, once again, thanks so much Juan!
