Job Summary: The Department of Media Studies at the University of San
Francisco invites applications for a full-time term Assistant Professor
position to begin fall semester 2018. This position seeks candidates from
the field of journalism. This is a one-year term position with an option to
renew.

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate’s teaching responsibilities
may include introductory and advanced newswriting and reporting classes,
feature writing, investigative reporting and journalism ethics. The
candidate will also be in the rotation to teach the civic media course and
is encouraged, but not required, to develop new specialty reporting courses
(for example, social media and database reporting skills, political
reporting, health and science reporting, editing). The teaching load for
this position will be determined at either three or four 4-unit courses per
semester. In addition, depending on the teaching load, the successful
candidate can be expected to engage in service to the department, college,
and University.

Minimum Qualifications: The University of San Francisco is seeking a
seasoned journalism practitioner: a news writer or editor with at least
five years of recent newsroom experience who is prepared to teach
undergraduate journalism students with a wide range of interests and skill
levels.  Candidates with skills in multimedia reporting and writing for
various formats would be particularly attractive. A minimum of a master’s
degree in journalism or a related field must be completed by August 2018.
The program expects to see evidence of the candidate’s engagement in
diversity and inclusion through their journalism, teaching and professional
service. Experience teaching at the university level and an understanding
of and commitment to support social justice and the mission of the
University of San Francisco are required.

a resume outlining recent professional journalism and teaching experience;
three recent examples of their published reporting, and evidence of
