Sessions Scheduled for the conference

8:30-9:00 Registration / Refreshments

Session One:  9:00-10:30
Room 1 “Getting
Started WRITE Away”
Heather Pogue,Monroe Elementary School, Norman
Are you trying to find ways
for children to apply the writing process?  This workshop will help integrate the use of picture books and authors
to develop authentic writing experiences.  Participants will be engaged with hands-on writing activities during
this session.

Room 2   “D3: Digging Deeper with Demonstration”
Debbie Wade, NBCT, Pioneer Elementary, Noble
Participants
will experience writing as a student and then reflect on the lesson as a
teacher.  This nonfiction writing lesson
can be adapted to any grade level.  The
teacher reflection is rooted in the TLE requirements that require teachers to
analyze why they do what they do.  This
session will help participants see how powerful teacher is and how the tiniest
element can affect student achievement.

Room 3   “WRITE Foot Forward!”
Stacey Howard, Coolidge Elementary,  Oklahoma City
Teaching
the love of writing is the first essential step in the “write” direction!  Participants will explore a variety of
writing activities aligned with Common Core State Standards to help their
students embrace writing and realize it is more than writing for a test.  Participants will be actively engaged in
hands on activities the can take back and start using in their classrooms
immediately.

Break 10:30-10:45

Session Two:  10:45-12:15
Room 1 “Writing is As
Easy As ABC”
Jamie Johnson,NBCT, McKinley Elementary, Norman
Participants will actively
participate in a variety of lessons integrating the writing process across the
curriculum.  The ideas shared can easily
be implemented into any currently classroom curriculum.  Specific Common Core goals and objectives
will be addressed.

Room 2   “Write Away!”
Kim Schooler, NBCT, Truman
Elementary, Norman
You
can’t put off training for the race, every moment counts!  Participants will engage in a hands-on
strategy for teaching the writing process and setting up a community of writers
within their class to get off on the “write” foot.  These lessons will outfit students with the
right equipment and create excitement for writing.   Participants will learn how to set up
writing notebooks. Students will cheer on their teammates as they race to the
finish line of Common Core writing whether it is a sprint or marathon.
