Dear Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultants,

OWP Needs Your Help

The Oklahoma Writing Project needs your help to recruit strong fellows for the Summer Institute. National Writing Project wants us to increase the number and diversity of our applicants for our Summer Institute, and we know that our teacher consultants are our best resource for recruitment. At the last meeting the OWP Board decided to institute an incentive program for recruitment. Every teacher consultant who recruits a fellow, who ultimately is accepted for the Summer Institute, will receive a $50 gift certificate to a book store. That means this spring 15 teacher consultants are going to be shopping courtesy of the Oklahoma Writing Project.

I have attached the Summer Institute application that can be given to prospective fellows. Please note that there is a place on the application to indicate the recruiter's name. As you talk to people about the Summer Institute you might indicate benefits of attending the Summer Institute such as the following:

                *
                        Tuition for six hours of graduate credit is provided. For teachers who want to pursue a graduate degree these hours can frequently be built into a program of study.
                *
                        Housing scholarships are available for participants living too far away from Norman to commute.
                *
                        For teachers who want to pursue National Board certification, the writing skills developed and enhanced during the Summer Institute will be invaluable for the writing required in this certification process.
                *
                        Teachers who are interested in consulting will have that opportunity through the staff development the Oklahoma Writing Project provides to school districts.
                *
                        Teacher Consultants can apply for scholarships to attend the National Writing Project/NCTE annual meeting and National Writing Project network meetings such as English Language Learners, and Rural or Urban Sites.
                *
                        Research grants are available for Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultants.
                *
                        The Oklahoma Writing Project maintains a library available to all Teacher Consultants.
                *
                        Every student deserves a good teacher of writing. The Summer Institute will help you become that teacher.

Thank you for your recruitment help.

Sincerely,

Priscilla Griffith

Director, Oklahoma Writing Project
