The University has received notice of a pending class action lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard Company. The facts of the claims allege that certain HP printers will stop printing, warning that the ink cartridge has run out of ink, even though there is still ink in the cartridges. In order to act upon this claim, we need to know if, and how many, of the affected printers have been purchased or leased by the University. The list of included printer models is attached for your review. If you have one of these models in your area, please submit the date of purchase, serial number of the device and the name of the department or individual who uses/used the printer.

Please take a few moments to survey your department for these devices and forward the required information via email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. To be included in the University's filing, your submission must be received no later than 2 pm on Friday, December 8, 2010. The Purchasing Department and NC IT Department will compile information for all campuses for an appropriate response.

Thanks,
Purchasing Department
