Subject: Media Arts students invited to join KTA

Media Arts colleagues:

The following BEM and PW majors have been invited to join Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society for journalism and mass communication.

Jaimie Krycho
Daniel Terracina
Dorathea Maynard
Jena Carper
Mitchell Biesemeyer

I'm asking you to congratulate these students and encourage them to join KTA. There is a one-time $30 initiation fee, and membership is for life (no further dues). Gaylord College holds a very nice initiation ceremony on the morning of graduation, inviting the students' families. Students receive individual recognition on the stage of our auditorium, and they are presented a key pin, professionally crafted award certificate and an attractive honor cord (to be worn with academic apparel).

KTA is very selective. Only those students in the top 10 percent of their graduating class are invited. In 2010-2011 school year, the college will graduate about 275 students. Of these, the top 23 have been invited to join KTA, which is the only national honor society for students in journalism and mass communication. The academic standards for initiation are considerably more rigorous than most other honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa. This year, students needed an overall minimum, four-year GPA of 3.75 to be invited.

I have been the Gaylord College's KTA adviser since 2001, and am the sitting national vice president of KTA. I'm trying to bring greater visibility to this well-earned honor the students receive, and would appreciate your assistance.

I also invite you to join our initiation ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, in the Gaylord Hall Auditorium.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks.
Peter
