Informed Consent

You are invited to participate in a research study about the onboarding experiences of health sciences librarians. The goal of this research study is to investigate how libraries approach onboarding new librarians and discover what approaches work well and what could be improved in these processes. This study is being conducted by Caraline Annichiarico, Kay Strahan, and Lindsay Blake, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

PARTICIPATION - If you join, you will be asked to complete a survey that asks about your onboarding experience. The survey should take about 5 - 10 minutes to complete. It is entirely up to you whether to join or to complete the survey. Nothing about your employment status will change no matter what you decide. If you decide before you submit the survey that you don't want to participate, just exit out of it before submitting.

BENEFITS - You will receive no direct benefits from participating in this research study. However, your responses may help us learn more about how libraries approach onboarding new health sciences librarians and the specific experiences of those librarians. The information submitted in the survey and interviews may be used for future presentations, publications, and/or creation of new library services.

RISKS - There are no foreseeable risks involved in participating in this study other than those encountered in day-to-day life. The investigators will review the data submitted, but data may also be viewed by the UAMS Institutional Review Board, and other institutional oversight offices. Names and email addresses that are submitted will be separated from survey results and only kept long enough to contact participants and will then be coded to protect confidentiality.

CONFIDENTIALITY - The information you will share with us if you participate in this study will be kept completely confidential to the full extent of the law. We will be collecting demographic information, but not names or emails. IP addresses will also not be recorded keeping the survey completely anonymous. Study findings will be presented only in summary form at conferences or in publications. While the investigator(s) will keep your information confidential, there are some risks of data breaches when sending information over the internet that are beyond the control of the investigator(s).

CONTACT - If you have further questions or concerns about your rights as a participant in this study, complaints or concerns about a research study, or to obtain information or offer input contact the PI: Caraline Annichiarico - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or the IRB office during normal business hours: UAMS IRB: (501) 686-5667, [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> . This research and survey tool has been approved by the UAMS IRB (IRB# 276707).
