I've been using Adobe Connect to create pre-lectures for an online Executive
MBA course. The students really like them. I currently create a new set of
lecture every time I teach the course, which allows the lectures to be more
personalized for the group of students. But, of course, it would be more
efficient to create mini-lectures on topics and reuse them!
Adobe Connect is a pay-for-service system, with the recordings made and
watched on the Internet. Pre-lectures could be also be done using voiceover
inside PowerPoint, or using a an easy-to-learn program such as Camtasia.

We have many professors using IF-AT forms which serve as pre-lectures.
These are "scratch off" lottery looking sheets that groups of students take
as quizzes in preparation for the presentation by the instructor and can be
used in many other ways too.

I am implementing pre-lectures into my second semester general chemistry
class this semester. Early observations are fairly positive. It is nice
hearing students use fancy terms like "microstates" during class
discussions. Has anyone else had experience implementing pre-lectures? I
would love to hear about any successes and challenges.
