Event Description:
In 2006, following the publication of the Recommended Uniform Newborn Screening Panel, the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG), through its HRSA-funded National Coordinating Center for the Regional Genetic and Newborn Screening Services Collaboratives (NCC), developed ACTion Sheets (ACT Sheets) as clinical decision support tools for the primary care provider. ACT sheets contain basic information about genetic disorders and outline a plan of appropriate action for the primary care provider to take when acute and life threatening disorders are encountered in the immediate newborn period. Subsequently, new ACT Sheets have been developed to include additional newborn screening identified disorders, transition to adult care, adult-onset, and carrier conditions. ACT Sheets dissemination and widespread adoption remains a central goal of the NCC. Ms. Keehn and Dr. Thompson will engage Drs. Kimball, Sullivan, and Trotter in a robust conversation about ACT Sheets and the newborn screening system from their perspectives as primary care providers. The discussion is intended to increase the awareness about and encourage the use of ACT Sheets.
