We have a total of 4 rooms blocked for the Tech Expo, from 8 am - 9pm on Monday morning. That's all we can get at that time, as we are using what could be divided up into more rooms for the exhibits hall.

I'd really like to switch those to 9:00 - 10:00 anyway, because that way we could have the breakfast/opening of exhibits at 8 am. The way it's scheduled now, people who went to the TechExpos wouldn't get any of the food & drink. Posters are staffed from 10:00-noon, then the business lunch from noon - 2.
I could see about adding 2 more after the business lunch from 2-3 but we're taking up 2 of those rooms after the business meeting with 2 SCAMeL sub-group meetings (Collection Development & ILL).

But are you planning on giving the demonstrators a full hour? or are these meant as 30 minutes total (20 to demo & 10 for questions)? If that's the case, then we can fit in 8 in the 9-10 slot.

Please let me know your thoughts on the time switch from 8-9 to 9-10 ASAP, as that will change the schedule we are sending out in the prelim packet.

Holly,
Yes, Greg Bodin would be good, also Michelle Malizia and Karen Vargas
probably would welcome the chance to demo some of the NLM databases.

Donna Timm has a Power Point Presentation she designed in the form of
a Jeopardy game. Tons of technology involved and she may have other
specialties! I know she shared it at another professional conference,
but not sure of which one.

Here are some more topics/suggestions, we just need to find a
librarian:
SurveyMonkey, try Jon Crossno
Scopus
Blogging
Reference chat
Blackboard
WebCT
podcasting
RSS feeds
Up-to-Date
RefWorks, try Dena Hanson @ Cooks
PDAs, try Lisa Smith

Tim,

Yes, I've been kind of heading in that direction. Dohn is working
with
Ebsco to present on DynaMed. I've also asked a colleague to present
with someone from SCR on implementing Go Local. At this point I have
a
half an hour and I'm thinking that perhaps Greg Bodin may be there and
able to do an abbreviated 'Geeks Bearing Gifts' class. He will be
here
on Monday and I will ask him them. If all of these work out, we'll be
ok. I was just hoping someone would step up to the call.

Please let me know if the above sounds like a good plan. I can also
look into the vendor info you supplied.

Holly

Holly, let's try another way, contact the vendor directly. For
starters,
Contact Mike Harwell, [log in to unmask] , at Ebsco to see if knows of
librarian using one of the Ebsco products such as DynaMed, their
LinkSource, A-Z Service, or any one of their many products. I know
they
are heavily promoting Dynamed, now all we have to do is find a
librarian
that's using it and to demo it.

Here's another lead, contact John Reynolds at Serial Solutions
([log in to unmask] ). Lots of librarians are using this
product. He might know of one that would be willing to work with him
in
demo'ing their products.

Cybertools is another one to contact. Texas Tech uses them. Contact
Richard Wood, Librarian Director, who could direct you to someone on
his staff to work something up with Mark Roux, the Cybertools Pres.

Does anyone else on the committee have any suggestions?

Nancy or Esther, could you send Holly a list of vendors that have
signed on?

Thanks,
Tim

Hello,

There have been no responses for the Tech Expo. Another reminder
would
be helpful.

Program Committee,

Since we only have about a week left before the deadline, have we
received any more responses for papers, posters, roundtables and the
tech expo? And Joe, do we have the final speaker lined up?

Either Martha or I will send out another reminder at the beginning of
next week.
Thanks,
Tim

We have had 6 contributed paper abstracts so far (5 in the last 2
days).
I support extending the deadline to the end of July.

Hi all -
I think the end of July would give us (the LAC) plenty of time. It
just
seems to me that the earlier submission deadline was based on a
paper/mail world, where whoever the reviewers were had to have things
mailed to them and mail them back to a central point. With online
submission and email communications & attachments, you don't need to
allow that much time.
If we set the extended deadline to the end of July, say Friday the
28th,
and gave the reviewers 2 weeks to look them over (until Aug11) and get
back to people, and then we (LAC) got the final list by Aug 18th, we'd
still have plenty of time.
Those of you with more experience should speak up - and loudly - if
I'm
being way too optimistic with my timing.

The preliminary program for the registration packet is, after all,
preliminary, and doesn't have to include all the individual paper &
poster titles - just the times for the sessions. We just need things
in
time to do the final program, and make sure everything has room to
occur.

How many submissions for each activity do we have as of today?
Contributed papers?
Posters? (Vicki said 3)
Roundtables?
TechExpo?
Just remember to include the poster size in the reminder to the
deadline
extension, please!

The things we really need firmed up in order to put up the
registration
are the Roundtable Topics (if you want those available as sign-ups)
and
the Continuing Education offerings.

Again, if I'm off in my estimates of how much time we need on our end,
let me know!

Nancy

I think a lot of folks were waiting until after MLA, and then forgot.
I
have a poster to submit, but haven't yet, either.

I am really surprised at the low number! I hope we can extend the
deadline. Send out emails begging?

With only three submissions, we need to extend the deadline and
resend
the call for papers, posters, etc. Nancy, what would be a good date to
set to allow you enough time to get the preliminary program printed?

What are your thoughts on this? What has been done in the past? We
only have three submissions to date.

Vicki,

We were wondering if we are bound by the June 15 deadline for posters.

I just came up with an idea yesterday, and Craig Elam likes it. He
felt
that you would take submissions a little later, if requested.

I will see if we can do this idea. It would be a survey. I think it
is
more appropriate as a poster, rather than a contributed paper. I
wasn't
even thinking about presenting anything, but something just popped
into
my head!
