Subject: Dr. Lionel Barrow, Jr.
Dear Jennifer:
I join our colleagues in AEJMC in urging our Association to take a public position on the life and death of Dr. Lee Barrow.
I am away at a site visit so I cannot do as much as I should, but here is a beginning statement that I would like to see posted in conjunction with other tributes to Dr. Barrow:
The faculty, students and staff members in the John H. Johnson School of Communications share the grief of the family of the former dean of our school, Dr. Lionel Barrow, on his death. Dean Barrow led the school for 10 years, bringing stability to the young school, introducing a strong graduate and research focus and establishing an enduring linkage between the school and the radio and television stations owned by the University. In his work in national communication associations, he was a pioneer in developing initiatives that focused on diversity concerns. We will miss his candor and courage.
