The Department of Communication at Portland State University in Oregon

seeks 2 full-time, nine-month, tenure-track assistant professors to

begin September 16, 2009. Scholars who fit within Portland State's

emphasis on community engagement and sustainability, and the

Department's interdisciplinary focus on discourse in urban

communities, are encouraged to apply. Individuals with research

interests in traditionally under-represented communities and who

complement current faculty expertise are sought. Experience in

combining methods (e.g. experimental and survey, content analysis and

discourse analysis, etc.) is desirable.


Duties will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and

directing master's theses; conducting research and obtaining grants

for external funding; and participating in campus and community

service. A PhD in Communication or a related field and a background in

university teaching and research are required (ABD may be considered

with strong evidence of completion no later than June 2010).


Minimum qualifications include a demonstrated passion for research, a

well-established research program that shows a strong potential for

sustained external funding, and a record of teaching excellence.

Appointment above the rank of Assistant Professor requires a strong

history of obtaining and managing external support for research. Women
